The KLENKHART & PARTNER CONSULTING ZT GMBH started in 2007 on behalf of the Brasov county council and the city of Brasov a masterplan concerning the rehabilitation and improvement of the skiing area in Poiana Brasov in the centre of the Carpats.

Poiana Brasov is one of the most famous skiing areas in Romania and a traditional tourist resort with about 4000 touristic beds. It is situated 15 km to the south of Brasov (280.000 inhabitants) at the Postavaru mountain. (1.000 – 1.800 mASL).

The goal of the masterplan and the now running project is the revaluation of this high frequented skiing location according to present requirements of modern winter tourism.
After analyzing the problems in the existing area with regard to capacity, safety and comfort, the modernization concept contains 2 modern ropeways (a 4-seater Chairlift and a detachable 6-seater chairlift) to raise the capacity, a widening of the existing slopes, and the development of artificial snow facilities in the entire 70 hectares large skiing area.

Observing the climate boundaries and the last winters lacking natural snow despite cold temperatures, the pre-condition of a successful and sustainable development is the artificial snow system. Core of this snowmaking concept is the artificial lake Ruia (120.000m³ volume) in the upper part of the skiing area (filled mainly with melting water) providing water to a system of mainly snowlances, with snowguns in the widest pistes.
